Pittsburgh (PA) Firefighters Battle Fatal Five-Alarm High-Rise Fire

Pittsburgh (PA) firefighters fought a five-alarm fire this morning at a high-rise apartment building in the city’s Shadyside section.

One man died on the fifth floor, according to a report from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (http://bit.ly/Y1kYPj). Several other people were taken to hospitals to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters were conducting search and rescue operations on several floors of the building. Firefighters allowed some people to leave but sheltered others in their apartments because they believe it safer and more organized than taking them through debris-filed hallways to escape.
