Charlotte fire

Charlotte (NC) firefighters responded early Thursday to an intentionally set fire that sent one person to the hospital, according to the department.

Crews responding to the May 30 fire in the 1000 block of Margaret Brown St. found fire showing on arrival, and the fire escalated to three alarms.

Sixty Charlotte firefighters controlled the fire in 75 minutes, according to a post from the department on the social media platform X.

This fire occurred in a vacant structure that was undergoing a total renovation. The building where the fire started was almost completely destroyed and collapsed on top of the crawlspace foundation.

Two adjacent buildings, which were both attached and occupied townhome-style buildings, were exposed and almost completely gutted, though both remained standing. Charlotte fire investigators determined that the fire was intentionally set. This same structure had a fire less than 24 hours before and, that fire was also investigated by the Charlotte fire investigators, who ruled it incendiary.

Six residents were evaluated by EMS, and one person was transported to an area hospital. No firefighters were injured. The estimated property loss is $390K, and the fire is under investigation.
