One Child Dead in TX Mobile Home Fire

According to a report from KXAN, a fire at a north Austin, Texas mobile home park Thursday morning killed one child, believed to be a four-year-old girl, and three others were seriously injured, one in life-threatening condition.

Austin Fire Department (AFD) Division Chief Thayer Smith said they received the call at 3:44 a.m. for a fire in the 8100 block of Research Boulevard northbound, near the intersection with North Lamar Boulevard. He said the scene on arrival was “chaotic.” There were as many as nine people were inside when the fire erupted.

Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS) said that, although five people escaped unharmed, a child died and three others were transported to the hospital, two adults, one with critical, life-threatening injuries, and another with serious injuries. One other child suffered what was called “serious” injuries.

ATCEMS said some patients suffered severe burns and/or smoke inhalation.

Austin Police are now investigating the child’s death as suspicious. Arson investigators and homicide detectives are on scene.

The AFD is now investigating the cause of the fire.
