NY Firefighter Falls Through Roof While Fighting Attic Fire

One Troy (NY) firefighter went through the roof and another was injured while responding to a house fire late last month, according to a report.

Sidewinder Photography reported that the morning fire on April 29, 2023, occured in a single-story, balloon-frame home in the city’s Hillview Heights neighborhood. Arriving crews found heavy smoke pumping from the eaves of the structure’s roof, which had solar panels on the front.

Firefighters made entry to search for residents and fire while truck company members made the roof in the rear of the building. The fire was reportedly in the attic of the house, and as firefighters began to ventilate the roof, one firefighter fell through and had flames come up around him. Nearby members grabbed the firefighter and pulled him up through the hole in the roof.

Firefighters on scene were able to bring the incident under control in fewer than 15 minutes. Another firefighter was injured during overhaul and transported.
