NJ Firefighters Respond to Fire on Boat Laden with Batteries

West Milford (NJ) firefighters responded to a boat fire Monday on Pinecliff Lake, according to a release from the department.

Crews from Fire Companies 3 and 6 responded just before 9 p.m. local time on August 12, 2024, to a reported boat fire on the lake. Arriving firefighters initially suspected that the pontoon boat was potentially an electric vehicle, and Company 4 members were added to the response. The vessel floated away from the address where companies responded to, and firefighters on shore were not able to reach it.

West Milford OEM deployed for boat operations. As crew members approached the involved vessel, they found that it was not electric but had numerous vehicle batteries on board. The boat was not occupied at this time, the release stated, and was towed back to shore by Marine 4, where Company 3 firefighters extinguished the fire and performed overhaul.

No injuries were reported, and the fire is under investigation.
