A firefighter in West Long Branch has been charged with forging training documents related to a response to an Open Public Records Act request, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office announced Tuesday.
Ronald Guidetti, 61, of Long Branch is charged with false uttering, forgery, and falsifying or tampering with records, which are third-degree and fourth-degree offenses.
An investigation was launched by the county prosecutor’s office after concerns were raised over the validity of two specific training certificates for a firefighter at West Long Branch Fire Company No. 2, a news release stated.
Authorities said Guidetti created the falsified certificates in order to effectuate a response to an Open Public Records Act (OPRA) request filed with the fire company — then removed the certificates from the filing system and destroyed them once the request was fulfilled.
Guidetti turned himself in on Monday was released pending his first court appearance, according to officials.
