Departments

FROM THE PUBLISHER

We are pleased to announce three staff appointments for Fire Engineering.

Jackie Cox is the new associate editor. She brings extensive magazine experience, having worked at Business Week and the journal of Accountancy. Most recently she was associate editor of another technical magazine, Paper Trade Journal, where she edited and wrote news and feature articles.

It is not uncommon for our readers to have received their first introduction to the fire service from their fathers who were members of fire departments. And so it was with Jackie. Her father retired as a FDNY lieutenant with service in the Bronx.

Close readers of the staff masthead last month saw two names under a new consulting editor category: Doug Forsman and Gordon Routley.

Doug Forsman is chief of the Champaign, III., Fire Department. His exposure to the broad issues facing fire departments came with serving as senior fire service specialist at the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) in Boston.

Before Champaign, Doug was also chief of the Wabash Township, Ind., and Norfolk, Mass., Fire Departments. His first stop after receiving a fire protection degree from Oklahoma State University was at Purdue University, where he was in charge of that fire department.

Cordon Routley, assistant to the fire chief for research and planning, has been with the Phoenix Fire Department for nine years. His duties have included inquiries into major fire and rescue situations around the country.

Gordon’s formal education included a degree in civil engineering at McGill University in Montreal and work toward a degree in fire protection engineering at the University of Maryland. He is completing a master’s degree in public administration at Arizona State University.

COMING NEXT MONTH . . .

The March issue will include some special articles on fire department communications, including a special look at communications at hazardous materials incidents, written by Chief Warren Isman.
