According to a report from KETV, Omaha (NE) Fire Department (OFD) firefighters rescued an injured, combative man from the roof of a burning two-story, vacant house Monday night after receiving a neighbor’s 911 call.

The OFD received the call at around 7 p.m. near 25th & Binney streets.

The OFD discovered the man on the first-floor roof near the fire, but he refused rescue efforts and pushed away the ladders OFD firefighters attempted to set at the roof’s edge.

Once firefighters put the victim on a ladder, a struggle ensued, said to the OFD. Crews were then able to bring him down.

The victim was transported to Nebraska Medicine in critical condition. OFD crews are still unsure why the man was on the roof.
