On June 2, Nash County (NC) 911 Center received a call for a possible structure fire in the 10000 block on NC 58 Highway, in the Cooper section of Nash County. Fire departments from Station 15 Coopers, Station 4 West Mount, and Station 11 Sharpsburg responded, along with Wilson County, Station 9 Silver Lake, and Nash EMS units. As companies were responding, fire radio updated that they were responding to a working fire and the occupants had exited the building with their pets.

The first-in engine company from Coopers reported they had a one story home heavily involved with fire through the roof.

As the other companies were responding, they could see a heavy column of black smoke in the sky.

According to Coopers Fire Chief Chris Joyner, a 400-foot 5-inch supply line was laid from a hydrant on NC 97 Highway down NC 58 to the fire. Three attack lines were placed in service and members had the fire under control about 25 minutes.  The house was heavily damaged and there were no injuries reported. Forty-two firefighters were location

The fire appeared to have started in the kitchen area and is being investigated by the Nash County Fire Marshal’s office.
