The National Fire Protection Association’s Western office has a new regional representative and a new location.

Robert V. Miller, formerly the Uniform Fire Code (UFC) coordinator for the International Conference of Building Officials, began his new job in January. The West Coast office originated as a pilot project three years ago, as the NFPA made an effort to be more active with its Western members.

Miller served in the San Diego Fire Department for 15 years, first as a firefighter and then as a fire engineer specializing in plans examination. In 1975, he attained the rank of captain; his duties as a section supervisor for commercial and industrial code enforcement included hazardous-materials inspections. When Miller left the department in 1983, he supervised the establishment of the permanent Western Fire Chiefs Association’s home office and developed its newsletter.

The NFPA’s western office is now located in Ontario, Calif.; the new telephone number number is (714) 945-1246.

J. Donald Roland has been appointed president of Ansui Fire Protection by the firm’s parent company, Wormald Americas.

Roland joined Ansui, which manufactures firefighting equipment, in 1966 as a cost accountant. He was named company treasurer in 1974 and was appointed to the additional titles of vice president and controller in 1980. In 1984, Roland was named vice president of finance for Wormald Americas.
