Fullerton, CA, Fire Chief Ron Coleman has been appointed to a four-year term on the State Board of Fire Services by Governor George Deukmejian. The board is an advisory body to the state fire marshal, and is responsible for formulating policy regarding fire training and education in California. Chief Coleman, a Marine Corps veteran, came to Fullerton in January 1985 from the San Clemente Fire Department where he served as chief for 11 years. Prior to that, he served as operations chief for the Costa Mesa Fire Department; as supervisor of fire control for the U.S. Park Service in Yosemite; and as a firefighter with the U.S. Forest Service. Chief Coleman has a master’s degree in career development in public safety.
Elmer L. Brouillard, retired fire chief for the City of Chico, CA, died at the age of 68. Chief Brouillard joined the Chico Fire Department in 1931 (when he was 14) as a call firefighter, and was appointed a paid fire^ fighter in 1939. He was promoted through the ranks and became chief of department in 1953. He served as Chico’s fire chief for nearly 24 years, retiring in 1977.
Chief Brouillard served as president of the Western Fire Chiefs’ Association, the California Fire Chiefs’ Association, the Northern California Fire Chiefs’ Association, and the Native Sons of the Golden West. He was actively involved in the California State Governor’s Advisory Board, the California State Fire Training Board, and numerous professional organizations. Community affairs included long-time membership in the Masonic Lodge, the Boy Scouts, and the Rotary International.
