Fisher Elected President

Chief Robert J. Fisher, of the Midland Fire Department was recently elected president of the Michigan Fire Chiefs Association. His father, the late Chief Hugh F. Fisher, was elected to the same office 29 years ago. This is the first time in the history of the MFCA that a father and son have served as its president.

Fisher has been chief in Midland for seven years. Previously, he served for 25 years with the Lansing Fire Department, from which he retired as deputy chief in charge of training.

Others elected to office in the MFCA were: Jerry D. Gilbert, Battle Creek Township, 1st vice president; Wally Zielke, Roseville, 2nd vice president; Mark L. Belkoff, Avon Township, secretary-treasurer; and Lewis H.Shellenberger, Marshall, sergeant-atarms.

Shreve Joins LSU’s Staff

John Fred Shreve has joined Louisiana State University as instructor/coordinator of fire science at the Eunice campus. He will help develop an associate degree fire science program.

A fire chief in Union City, Pa., for five years, Shreve has been a fire protection consultant for the IAFC, the Florida Firefighters Standards Council, and the Pennsylvania Fire Service Training Program. He was at one time assistant editor of the International Fire Service Training association red books.

Shreve has been an assistant professor of fire science technology at Roan State Community College in Harriman, Tenn. He holds an associate degree in fire protection technology and B.S. and M.S. degrees in industrial education, all from Oklahoma State University.

Riley Retires

Chief James W. Riley of the Anaheim, Calif., Fire Department for the last eight years, will retire on Dec. 28. Previously, he was chief of the Lynwood, Calif., Fire Department for eight years, and spent two years as city manager of that city in Los Angeles County.

Riley holds a degree in public administration from the University of Southern California. A former Air Force pilot, he is a captain in the USAF reserve.
