STEVE E. ABRAIRA was appointed as the new chief for the Boston (MA) Fire Department (BFD). He will succeed Ronald Keating, who retired in October after 41 years of service to the BFD. Abraira served the Miami (FL) Fire-Rescue Department (MRFD) for more than 26 years, eventually becoming an assistant chief. He left the MFRD in 2000 to become chief of the Dallas (TX) Fire-Rescue Department, where he served for more than five years before retiring to Florida. In 2007, Abraira came out of retirement to become chief of the Palm Bay (FL) Fire Department. Abraira also holds the Chief Fire Officer designation from the Commission on Professional Credentialing and is a member of the Institution of Fire Engineers.

Baptist Child and Family Services’ Emergency Services Division has named DEE GRIMM, RN, JD, as associate executive director of national preparedness. Grimm will be responsible for establishing consultation, training, and response contracts and customizing programs and services for states and jurisdictions across the country. Grimm will also oversee the agency’s training curriculum, expand on existing services, and serve as a national subject matter expert at conferences while working in tandem with the Division’s associate executive director of policy, planning, and operations.
