  • After 25 distinguished years in the fire service, STEVEN T. EDWARDS, fire chief of the Prince George’s County (MD) Fire Department, has retired. Edwards began work in the fire service as a volunteer firefighter at age 16, and advanced through every rank of the Prince George’s County department. In September, he was awarded the prestigious “Award of Excellence” from the International Association of Fire Chiefs. Edwards will now assume the duties of Director of the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute. Former 1AFC President M. H. Oim) Estepp once again will assume the role of Prince George’s County Fire Chief.
  • The National Fire Academy has announced the recipients of the 1991 Outstanding Applied Research Award. The Executive Leadership Award has been awarded to Memphis (TN) Fire Department Deputy Chief RICHARD ARWOOD; the Strategic Analy-
  • sis of Fire Prevention Programs Award has been awarded to Division Chief WILLIAM R. SAGER of the California Department of Forestry and Assistant Chief JULIUS HALAS of the Sarasota (FI.) Fire Department. DAWN SMITH, deputy chief of the Pike Township (IN) Fire Department has been recognized with the Strategic Analysis of Fire Department Operations Award, and JOHN T. KOEHLER, district manager of the Florida Division of Forestry, has been recognized with the Executive Development Award.
  • The American Fire Sprinkler Association announced its new board of directors at their annual convention and exhibition held this past fell in Nashville, Tennessee. RONNIE HAHN, president of Associated Fire Protection in Raleigh, North Carolina, was elected At-large Director; ROBERT L. MCCULLOUGH, of Allsouth Sprinkler Co. in Lilbum, Georgia, was reelected to the position of Region Five
  • Director; EDWARD H. SMITH, chairman of H.F.P. Corporation in Holyoke, Massachusetts and Smith Fire Protection in Naples, Florida, also was elected an at-large director; and Manning J. Strickland, president of Strickland Fire Protection in College Park, Maryland, was elected Region Six Director. All four will serve three-year terms on the board of directors.
  • Fire Protection Publications, an entity of Oklahoma State University, has announced 1992-93 executive board members of the International Fire Services Training Association.
