Westhoff Becomes Chief
Bill Westhoff Jr. of the Missouri Fire and Rescue Training Institute at the University of Missouri, will be the new fire chief at Columbia, MO.
Westhoff has been coordinator and director of the institute since 1974. He served as volunteer fire chief of the Booke County Fire Protection District for 12 years and was the deputy fire chief there as well.
National Fire Academy Promotions
The following promotions have occurred in the National Fire Academy staff: James Craig has moved up from Program Chair for Hazardous Materials to Assistant Superintendent for Technical Development in the Resident Programs Division, Anne Currier, the former Program Chair for Organizational Development, is now the Assistant Superintendent for Management and Educational Development in the Resident Programs Division. Gerry Bassett has moved from Supervisor in the Materials Development Division to Assistant Superintendent for Training Material Development. Education Specialists Romey Brooks, William Lewis and Peggy Linden are now Senior Education Specialists in the Training Material Development staff. Instructor Noel Hart is now Program chair for Executive Development II in the Management and Educational Development Branch in the Resident Programs Division. Bruce Piringer has moved from Field Program Coordinator to Senior Program Coordinator for Academy Planning and Assistance and Public Education Assistance Programs in the Field Programs Division.
Achievement Awards
Three members of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department received Career Achievement Awards at a ceremony held in October.
Fire fighter Eric Lamar received the award for his assistance in establishing a Hazardous Materials Team for the department. Lt. Wayne Logan received the award for his tireless efforts and dedication in fire investigations and fire fighter William Makely was recognized for the many carpentry projects he has undertaken on a voluntary basis for the department.
