First Assistant Chief THOMAS VAN VRANKEN. of the Hudson Falls (NY) Volunteer Fire Department, has been awarded the National Volunteer Fire Council Marc Mueller Award of Excellence. The presentation was made at the Council’s fall conference held in Indianapolis, Indiana, in October. The award honors an outstanding fire safety educator.

GARY 0. T0KLE has been named assistant vice president, public fire protection, at the National Fire Protection Association. He previously served as director of that division. Among Tokle’s responsibilities will be developing codes and standards for the fire service; serving as liaison between the NFPA and state and local fire officials; and administering the association’s international Urban Fire Forum, a consortium of fire chiefs from major metropolitan centers.

Metro-Dade (FL) Fire Rescue Chief DAVID PAULIS0N was sworn in as second vice president of the International Association of Fire Chiefs at the association’s annual conference in St. Louis, Missouri, in August. He has been a member of the IAFC for six years and is a member of its board of directors. A 23-year veteran of Metro-Dade Fire Rescue, Chief Paulison was named the 1992 Florida Fire Chief of the Year in recognition of his outstanding leadership during Hurricane Andrew’ and for his role in spearheading efforts to improve statewide disaster planning.

The International Association of Fire Chiefs Foundation awarded scholarships to 30 men and women across the country. Funding for 12 of the awards came from sales of the Ben Franklin commemorative medal. The other awards were made possible through gifts from manufacturers and other contributing parties.
