TOMMY BALDWIN, MS, CFEI, a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) investigator, has retired after 36 years of government service. For the past 20 years, Baldwin served in the NIOSH Fire Fighter Fatality Investigation and Prevention Program, Cardiovascular Disease component in Cincinnati, Ohio. He also served for 20 years at six fire departments in various roles and ranks, including chief. He has a B.S. in fire investigation and an M.S. in loss prevention and safety from Eastern Kentucky University.

ANTONIO MARINO was named as the new chief of the Wrentham (MA) Fire Department. Marino had been named deputy chief this past summer and previously served as a captain and firefighter with the department. Marino joined the department as a volunteer in 1986 and became a full-time firefighter in 1999. The firefighter/emergency medical technician was promoted to captain in 2013. Throughout his career, Marino has served as a president and executive board member of the Wrentham Permanent Firefighters Association. Before joining the department, Marino served as a firefighter in the U.S. Navy from 1987 to 1991.

STEVE SWANEY became the new chief of Heartland Fire & Rescue, which oversees firefighting needs in El Cajon, La Mesa, and Lemon Grove, California, on October 20. Swaney replaces Colin Stowell, who was appointed as chief for the City of San Diego in July. Heartland Division Chief Mike Chasin had been interim chief since August 11. Swaney began working for the city of El Cajon in 1985, then stayed on when the city became part of Heartland Fire & Rescue in 2010. He has been a division chief for Heartland since 2013, overseeing the daily operations of all the fire stations in the three cities. Swaney has also served as chief for the Julian-Cuyamaca Fire Protection District.
