On the evening of July 13, Frederick County (MD) Fire & Rescue was alerted to the large non-dwelling barn fire on Mt. Tabor Rd. in Myersville, Maryland. First-arriving units found a small barn well involved and threatening a larger barn exposure. Both barn structures were very close to the road and to other nearby houses. As units worked to knock the smaller barn fire down, smoke started to show from the extension and command upgraded the alarm to bring in a rapid intervention dispatch (RID) and task force. Multiple units from Washington County (MD) assisted.

The larger barn was covered in tin and the secondary layer of the structure was wood. This made efforts to extinguish the interior fire difficult. The barn contained stacked hay bales. Crews from Truck 41 and Tower 1 operated to open up the tin siding and get access to the interior for venting. Crews poured water onto the interior hay bales using ladder pipes and handlines.

Crews worked tirelessly at the fire scene in warm humid temps for more than seven and a half hours, gaining control by the early morning hours and ultimately saving the main structure of the larger barn.
