Jul. 15—NEW HAVEN — Seven firefighters were injured while battling a blaze at a home on Dixwell Avenue Monday evening, officials say.

In a series of posts on X, the New Haven Fire Department said the report of a house fire on the 400 block of Dixwell came in from multiple callers at about 7 p.m.

Officials said multiple vehicles responded to the scene.

In a statement later on Monday night, New Haven Fire Chief of Operations Daniel Coughlin said arriving crews found heavy fire on the second and third floors of a large, three-story building. He said firefighters made an aggressive “attack” and a search of the house found no victims.

Coughlin said the fire was raised to second alarm, and eventually third. He said seven firefighters had minor injuries, including two who were transported to the hospital.

The eight people living in the home were displaced, Coughlin said, adding the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Photos posted by the fire department show extensive flame and smoke damage, especially on the second floor and the attic.

This is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available.
