Several firefighters sustained minor injuries after responding to a fire that went to four alarms Tuesday afternoon in Brooklyn, New York.
A few minutes after 1 p.m., Fire Department of New York (FDNY) units responded to a report of a fire at 2052 71st Street in Brooklyn, according to FDNY social media.
“We arrived in about four minutes and found fire on the first floor, which extended into the second floor and to the adjacent building across the driveway,” said Chief of Fire Operations John Esposito. “We used a fourth alarm assignment, which is about 39 fire and EMS units and about 170 fire and EMS personnel.”
People in the original fire building reportedly escaped before the fire department arrived, and they sustained no injuries, Chief Esposito told reporters.
The fire was placed under control at 2:57 p.m., and severely damaged both buildings. At least six firefighters were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation by FDNY fire marshals.
