MOTOROLA`S LAND MOBILE PRODUCTS SECTOR received a 10-year contract with San Francisco to install a digital 800-MHz trunked radio communications system as part of the city`s overall upgrade to a new E 9-1-1 system. The Motorola AstroTM SmartnetTM will consolidate the city`s nine existing radio systems into one system. Motorola will design and manufacture the new mixed mode analog and digital radio system and provide hardware/software components as well as 1,000 mobile and 3,000 portable radios. Motorola will also install 46 CentracomTM Gold EliteTM consoles with touch-screen CRT displays in the city`s new communications center.
Motorola received a contract from Akron, Ohio, to upgrade its two-site, two-channel 4.8 Kbps Private Data TACTM system to a RD-LAP 19.2 Kbps system. Akron recently installed an ASTROTM digital 800-MHz trunked, two-way voice system, which the wireless data system will augment.
