Molly Says, “Firefighters Are Your Friends…”

Hi, boys and girls!

Welcome to Molly’s Kids Zone on Firelife.com!

My name is Molly, and I am a real fire dog. I love teaching fire safety to children.

One of the things I like about being a fire dog and mascot is being able to travel the United States sharing fire safety with boys and girls just like you!

ONE OF MY FAVORITE SAFETY TIPS!

Today we are going to talk about one of my favorite fire safety tips: Firefighters are your friends.

Do you know a firefighter? Is your Mom, Dad, or another family member a firefighter?

In this Molly’s Kids Zone column, you will learn more about firefighters and the special job they do!

But first, I wanted to share a picture of me in my firefighter gear. How do I look?

One of the questions I get asked the most is if I go into fires and the answer is “No.” Do you know why?

If you don’t know the answer, that is okay. The answer is because it is the firefighters’ job to go into buildings. They have been trained and they have special gear to help keep them safe.

My job is also important, because I share fire safety and help keep children safe, hopefully helping the firefighters from having to go to many fires.

FIREFIGHTERS ARE YOUR FRIENDS AND THEY ARE THERE TO HELP YOU!

Many of you may have had a firefighter come to your school to talk about fire safety. That is just one of the many jobs that firefighters do.

Firefighters are community helpers, and their job is to help keep you safe.

Here are some tips:

> Don’t hide from firefighters when they come to help.

> Firefighters are community helpers who provide safety for their community.

> A firefighter works for the fire department and can be a helper in many ways, such as putting out fires or educating people about fire safety and how to prevent fires.

Each time I visit Chicago, I have to stop by my favorite fire station, Engine 18 Chicago Fire, and say hello to the firefighters and Captain Wielgat.

I like to thank them for being firefighters and for helping keep everyone safe!

Next time you see firefighters, you can thank them by saying, “Thank you!”
