MO House Explodes, Partially Collapses After Gas Line Is Hit

The Independence Fire Department is investigating a home explosion that happened Monday evening, the department said.

Crews responded near Fair and Pearl streets to a home partially collapsed in an apparent explosion. Investigators determined the home was wrecked when a gas line was struck and gas became ignited within the home, according to IFD.

As of Monday evening, no injuries were reported. The department has not yet said if the homeowners or residents were located. Crews were securing the scene Monday and asking people to avoid the area.

No other information was immediately available Tuesday.
