A 40-year-old firefighter with Grand Traverse Band (MI) Fire Rescue was found dead at the firehouse, according to a report from the U.S. Fire Administration.
On Thursday, March 17, 2022, while on duty at the fire station, Firefighter/EMT David Wayne McDonald, Jr. was found deceased on the bay floor by a fellow firefighter. The cause of his death is under investigation.
According to a social media post from the department, Firefighter McDonald was a firefighter for 15 years, with the last part of that serving the citizens of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians and Leelanau County. He was also a firefighter with Pleasant Plains Fire Department in Baldwin, Michigan.
