Memphis (TN) Firefighter Killed, Three Others Injured in Fire

Update (12:45 p.m.): The fallen firefighter has been identified as Memphis (TN) Fire Lieutenant Jeffrey Norman, who joined the department on September 23, 2002, and served with the agency for 20 years.

The fire was subsequently ruled intentionally set.

Original story: One firefighter was killed and three others injured while operating at a house fire in South Memphis Tuesday night, according to reports.

According to a release from the Memphis Fire Department, the fire began shortly after 11:30 p.m. at 2047 Rile Street, and firefighters became trapped in the home. According to News 3, the home was reportedly vacant, and the fire reportedly started in a dumpster and spread to the building.

Three other firefighters were hospitalized.
