MD Firefighter Dies After Being Injured in Deadly Fire

A young volunteer firefighter has died after being critically injured in a fire last week in Reisterstown, Maryland.

Gene Kirchner, 25, died early this afternoon, according to Baltimore Sun report (http://bsun.md/132WruA). He was injured in an April 24 fire in a single-family home that also killed a 58-year-old man. Kirchner collapsed on the second floor of the structure during firefighting operations there.

Kirchner had been a junior firefighter for two years before serving another nine years as a volunteer firefighter.
