Mayday, Firefighters Injured After Pike Creek (DE) Fire

Firefighters responding to a structure fire in Delaware ran into some trouble on the fireground, according to reports.

Crews were responding around noon Thursday, January 12, 2023, to a fire at a townhome on Champions Drive in Pike Creek when an interior collapse reportedly trapped multiple firefighters, according to Alertpage. The firefighters were trapped in the building’s basement, according to firststateupdate.com. The Mayday was ultimately cleared and all members accounted for.

According to Delaware News Journal, four were injured in the fire, with injuries ranging from minor to serious. On Twitter, reporter Isabel Hughes indicated three members were transported to an area hospital, one of whom had serious injuries.

WPVI-TV reported that a firefighter with the Christiana Fire Company suffered burns. A firefighter with the Elsmere Fire Company was treated for respiratory difficulty, while another from the same company sustained an ankle injury. Another firefighter reportedly refused treatment.
