Mayday, Firefighter Killed in PA House Fire

A Penn Wynne (PA) firefighter was killed in a house fire, according to news reports.

CBS 3 Philly reports that Firefighter Sean W. DeMuynck died in the line of duty during what officials say was his final shift, according to a statement from Lower Merion Township.

On July 4, 2021 at 10:34 p.m., Firefighter DeMuynck reportedly responded with other members of the Penn Wynne/Overbrook Hills Fire Company to a house fire on Rosedale Rode in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. On arrival, units found the structure, a single-family dwelling, heavily involved with fire and smoke, according to the statement.

During fire operations, at 11:02 p.m., a Mayday was declared, and other firefighters found Firefighter DeMuynck on the third floor of the home. The Rapid Intervention Team pulled Firefighter DeMuynck from the residence and he was transported to an area medical facility.

He was unable to be revived, and was pronounced deceased at 12:22 p.m.

The statement indicated that Firefighter DeMuynck had served as a volunteer firefighter since August 2019. He is survived by his wife and parents. Firefighter DeMuynck and his wife are Canadian and had planned to move back home to rejoin their family today, July 5, 2021.

According to the U.S. Fire Administration notice on his passing, Firefighter DeMuynck was 35 years old.
