Mayday Declared During Three-Alarm Troy (NY) Structure Fire

Firefighters declared a Mayday during a third-alarm fire over the weekend in the city of Troy, New York, according to a report from Sidewinder Photography.

The fire occurred on Sunday, February 27, 2022, at 2184 5th Avenue, behind the Central Fire Station. On arrival, fire crews had heavy smoke pushing from the third floor and throughout the structure. Firefighters responding to the fire reportedly used a ladder to rescue one male victim who was hanging out a window early on during the overnight incident.

Firefighters operating on the second floor of the home declared a Mayday after a collapse occurred, but members were able to self-rescue. The firefighters were okay after the Mayday, Sidewinder Photography reported.

Roughly 50 to 60 firefighters responded to the scene. Units from several other departments responded to the scene, including firefighters from City of Cohoes, Watervliet, Green Island, and City of Albany.
