MA Crews Rescue Resident from Two-Alarm House Fire

According to a report from Boston.com, crews with the Stoneham (MA) Fire Department (SFD) rescued a man trapped inside a burning house just after 10 a.m. Thursday morning.

SFD crews were dispatched to 590 Main Street at 10:04 a.m. for a report of a house fire. Shortly after the dispatch of fire crews, a Stoneham police sergeant arrived at the home and ran to the rear of the home, knowing that the family who lived there usually used the back door.

At the rear of the home, the sergeant found a citizen trying to enter the home by shooting open a locked door to the trapped resident.

The SFD arrived at the residence at 10:07 a.m. to find heavy smoke billowing from the back of the house. A ladder truck crew initiated a rescue while an engine crew started to knock down the flames.

The sergeant stopped the person from shooting and notified arriving firefighters of the trapped resident in a rear bedroom. The sergeant also entered the home and tried to rescue the resident, but was met with and pushed back by the increasingly heavy smoke.

After the resident was removed, he was transported to a local hospital, but his condition is unknown at this time.

Clutter inside the home hindered operations, but SFD crews did get the fire under control at around 11 a.m. The home is thought to be a total loss, and the family of four who lived there is now displaced.

The resident was transported to a local hospital and is in unknown condition at this time.

The local who attempted to shoot their way into the home had a permit to carry and will not face charges. State and local fire officials are now investigating the cause of the fire.

Fire crews from Wakefield, Reading, Melrose, Woburn, and Medford offered mutual aid in helping the SFD bring the fire under control.
