LODD: One Firefighter Dead, Four Injured in Baltimore Fire

Update (October 20, 2023, 5:30 p.m. Eastern): The firefighter who died in yesterday’s fire in Baltimore has been identified as Firefighter Rodney Pitts. Firefighter Pitts, 31, had graduated the Baltimore City Fire Academy in July.

According to WBFF, Baltimore City Fire Chief James Wallace indicated that Firefighter Pitts was one of one of two firefighters who had to be rescued from the fire.

Four other firefighters—Lieutenant Dillon Rinaldo, Lieutenant Keith Brooks, Firefighter Tavon Marshal, and Firefighter Seth Robins—were also injured. Lieutenant Rinaldo is in critical condition at a burn unit, while Firefighter Robins remains in stable condition in the hospital; the other members were treated and released.

Update (9:30 p.m. Eastern): One firefighter is dead and four others injured after a rowhouse fire in Baltimore, Maryland, according to reports.

The Baltimore Sun reported that a firefighter was killed in a fire that grew “very rapidly” in the Woodmere section of the city. The structure was reportedly occupied.

The fire is under investigation.

According to WBALTV.com, three firefighters were injured while responding around 3:40 p.m. to a fire in the 5200 block of Linden Heights Avenue.

A Mayday was reportedly declared during the two-alarm fire. Few other details were available.
