March 1: Captain Alan Duchek, 46, a 13-year-veteran of the Desoto City (MO) Fire and Rescue died of an apparent heart attack after operating at the scene of a multivehicle accident. He collapsed at the scene, was revived, and was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed.

March 12: Firefighter Jerome Taylor, 69, of the Hillburn (NY) Volunteer Fire Department, died after suffering an apparent heart attack while operating at the scene of a fire involving a waste management facility.

March 16: Firefighter David L. Packard, 56, a 28-year veteran of the Boston (MA) Fire Department and member of Engine 28, died of an apparent heart attack shortly after reporting for duty.

March 17: Firefighter Chuck Vodak, 44, of the Dunning (NE) Volunteer Fire Department died of an apparent heart attack while operating at the scene of prairie fire in Thedford, Nebraska.

March 17: Firefighter Walter Flyntz, 45, a 10-year veteran of the Bridgeport (CT) Fire Department, died of an apparent heart attack while operating at an apartment fire. n
