Arson and insurance Industry

Peabody, Mass.

Finally through you the insurance industry’s side of the arson problem has been addressed in a exceptionally clear and concise manner. Naturally, this is in keeping with all of your editorials.

Having been in the fire fighting field (volunteer) and in the field inspecting for many years, I could not understand why we of the insurance industry often pay off a claim when it was obviously arson. It wasn’t until I was “inside” in the office that I understood what the problem was. So often in my dealings with the fire fighting fraternity I will get a “blast” as to why such and such a claim was paid and it is practically impossible to convince some of the arson investigation officers or fire prevention officers that our hands are tied all too frequently.

Your editorial certainly helped to clarify the problem to the fire fighting fraternity.
