Kitchen Explosion Ignites Two-Alarm Fire at MD Senior Living Facility

According to a report from FOX5, a two-alarm fire erupted in a Bowie, Maryland, senior living facility early Tuesday morning after an explosion in the kitchen area forced most residents to evacuate and others to shelter in place.

The fire was first reported at around 4 a.m. at the Larkin Chase Center in the 15000 block of Health Center Drive.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) officials said the explosion was reportedly felt from miles away, although no one was reported as needing hospitalization. Images from the scene show extensive damage to the kitchen area. Bricks and building materials could be seen scattered across the ground as emergency crews responded.

MCFRS Spokesperson Pete Piringer said 112 residents will be relocated because of the fire, and their families should meet at the Bowie Senior Center at 14900 Health Center Drive.

The cause of the explosion is now under investigation.
