Kansas City (MO) Firefighter Dies of Apparent Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound

A Kansas City (MO) firefighter has died after an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to reports.

The Kansas City Star reported that the fatal shooting apparently took place near Kansas City Fire Station 17, which housed Truck 2, the ladder truck that firefighter Larry J. Leggio rode to an October fire that claimed his life and the life of firefighter John V. Mesh.

The incident was reported about 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, the report said. In a joint statement, Fire Chief Paul Berardi, Mayor Sly James, and City Manager Troy Schulte acknowledged the firefighter’s death but did not release the firefighter’s name or other details.
