Indianapolis Firefighters Deal with Firing Ammo During Structure Fire

Indianapolis (IN) firefighters responding to a fire early Monday at 1852 Shelby Street had to contend with live rounds of ammunition going off.

Mitigating the Dangers of Ammunition at Fire Incidents

According to the department’s social media accounts, crews found heavy smoke and fire on arrival. A roof collapse and compromised structural integrity compelled command to evacuate the building and fight the fire defensively.

Firefighters decisive intervention managed to prevent damage to exposures on either side of the fire building. Four occupants were displaced. No injuries were reported.
