KY Fire Chief, Firefighters Abruptly Quit

The chief of the Hustonville (KY) Fire Department and nearly a dozen firefighters abruptly quit Wednesday, leaving the city with about half its fire department.

A report on www.lex18.com (http://bit.ly/w2xqQ1) attributed the mass departure to firefighters being fed up with the mayor’s accusations that the department was misusing its fire hall. One strong point of contention was firefighters allowing actors working at a local Halloween haunted house to use the fire hall to get into costume. The mayor contends the fire hall was left unlocked after the actors left.

Hustonville’s assistant fire chief was appointed chief. The mayor looked to assure citizens concered about public safety by pointing to mutual aid agreements with Lincoln County.

The department’s Facebook page says Hustonville City Fire and Rescue is a 20-plus member volunteer firefighting department serving a city of approximately one square mile. Hustonville is home to roughly 200 households with approximately 400 people.
