Home-Study Disaster Course

An independent home-study course covering such far-ranging preparedness areas as natural disasters, technological dangers and the threat of nuclear war is being offered to the general public by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The course, offered by mail through the National Emergency Training Center, explains the concept of emergency management and describes the signs and warnings, immediate and long-term dangers, mitigation and preparedness measures and response and recovery tips for a wide variety of emergencies. Some of these include earthquakes, tidal waves, floods, tornadoes, volcanic eruptions, hazardous materials and radiological accidents, dam disasters, resource shortages, structural fires and explosions and domestic disturbances.

The free course is open to all interested citizens. Applications may be obtained by writing FEMA Self-Directed Study Program, National Emergency Training Center, 16828 S. Seton Ave., Emmitsburg, Md. 21727.
