A raging house fire on Long Island destroyed a vacant house in Hempstead, New York, late Wednesday evening, May 30, 2018.

The first call came in around 9:30 p.m. Firefighters arriving on scene at Jerusalem Avenue near Greenwich Street found a two-story, vacant house entirely engulfed in flames.

The house has been the scene of several suspicious fires in the past, one as recent as six months ago. Fire companies from around Nassau County were summoned to battle the blaze.

Late last night, heavy machinery was being called in to knock down what remained of the structure so that firefighters could extinguish any additional hot spots.

Nassau County Fire Marshals were called to the scene to investigate.
