Four Killed in Crash While Attempting to Beat Train at Intersection

According to a report from ABC7, four people died at a Harvey, Illinois, train crossing early Wednesday morning when the car they were in attempted to beat a CSX freight train that was travelling through the intersection, said officials from the Harvey Fire Department (HFD).

HFD said a Dodge Durango carrying four people tried to beat the train at the crossing at 155th and Halsted Streets at about 2 a.m., but instead collided with the train, causing the car to erupt in flames. On arrival of emergency crews, the people inside the vehicle were confirmed deceased.

One of the railroad gates appeared to be broken, and the crashed vehicle was transported to the Harvey Police Department (HPD).

A representative for CSX was also at the scene Wednesday. The names of the victims were not immediately released.

The HPD did not have any additional information about the incident, and an investigation is now ongoing, with some road closures in the place in the area.
