According to a report from WCPO, Cincinnati (OH) Fire Department (CFD) officials said four children, two of which are now listed in critical condition, were rescued from a Winton Hills, Ohio, house fire Thursday morning.
A 17-year-old neighbor and her mother first spotted the fire. The two then ran into the home and were able to rescue at least child prior to the CFD’s arrival. The CFD said one other child self-evacuated before they arrived.
More than 60 firefighters responded to the initial report of two children trapped in the burning home on Strand Lane, next to Winton Hills Academy, at around 5:30 a.m. CFD crews arrived to find heavy flames shooting from the home.
CFD crews needed to attack the flames first to allow search crews to enter the home.
CFD Assistant Chief Matt Flagler said those crews discovered and then removed the two kids on the second floor. The children were then transported to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, where they are listed in critical condition.
A third child was also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Flagler did not indicate the children’s’ ages, but he said they were likely elementary school students.
There was one adult and four children were inside the home when the fire started. The adult and child who “self-evacuated” were not unharmed.
The CFD said the home suffered an estimated $110,000 in damages. The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
