Former Utah Female Firefighter Alleges Sexual Harassment

A woman who worked for the Clinton Fire Department for five years has filed a lawsuit claiming sexual harassment and discrimination, reports The Standard-Examiner.

Shelley Drescher filed the suit through her attorney, Michael A. Reason, in 2nd District Court in Farmington on July 18. No hearings have been scheduled.

The lawsuit is filed against the fire department, Clinton City and five firefighters, including the fire chief, Dave Olsen.

Clinton City Manager Dennis Cluff said Tuesday he could not speak about the specifics of the lawsuit at this time.

“I really can’t talk about it,” Cluff said. “It will have to go through the process.”

Cluff did say that as far as city officials are concerned, “The city has not done anything wrong.”

He did confirm that Drescher had filed a complaint with the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which has not released its findings yet.

Calls to Drescher’s attorney, Reason, for comments about the lawsuit were not immediately returned.

According to court documents, Drescher had worked as a part-time firefighter with Clinton from January 2008 to February 2013.

She had sought full-time employment several times, but was denied the promotion “as a result of her gender,” according to the document.
