Firefighters Pay Tribute to Late Cary (IL) Deputy Chief

Fire photographer Tim Olk shared some images from the funeral for late retired Deputy Chief William Gitzke of the Cary (IL) Fire Protection District.

According to a release from the department, Deputy Chief William “Bill” Gitzke, 76, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, November 15, 2019. He was, among other things, and Army veteran, and rose through the ranks at the agency to become its second-in-command. After serving 51 years, Bill retired from the Cary Fire Protection District in February 2013, becoming the longest-serving firefighter in department history. His funeral services were held on Thursday, November 21, 2019.
