Shortly after 11 am on Saturday, September 19, 2015, Anne Arundel County (MD) firefighters were dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 200 block of West Maple Road in Linthicum Heights.

Prior to arrival of fire department units, the county’s dispatch center started receiving multiple calls reporting the fire. First-arriving units found heavy fire in the rear of the second, third, and fourth floors of a large four-story wood-frame building that had been converted into apartments.

The fire was escalated to a second alarm, bringing 45 firefighters to the scene, including mutual aid from Baltimore City, Baltimore and Howard Counties and the BWI Airport Fire Department.

There were reportedly a total of nine residents in the building at the time of the fire, and all individuals were able to safely escape prior to the arrival of the fire department. Nine adults and five children were displaced by the fire and were provided assistance by the Red Cross.

There were no civilian injuries, however two firefighters were transported to local hospitals with minor injuries.

The Anne Arundel County Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit and Anne Arundel County Police Department have charged a 38-year-old resident of the building with a number of charges in the case.
