Firefighter Reunites with Dad’s Helmet Found in OH Crawl Space

A couple in Lorain were clearing out the crawl space under their house when they discovered a fire helmet left by previous occupants of the house.

That set off a bit of internet detective work. Ultimately Alicia and Drew Zadorozny were able to find out who the C. Wilker whose name was on the helmet was. And they connected with his son to return the helmet.

The helmet belonged to Clarence Welker, a 25-year veteran of the Lorain Fire Department, who died in 1990. Brian Welker, a retired West Lake fire lieutenant, is Clarence’s son.

Brian told 3News he looks forward to putting the helmet in his home next to his own, and the Zadoroznys are pleased to help someone find a connection to their past that they didn’t even know was missing.
