Firefighter Injured, More Than a Dozen Rescued in D.C. Apartment Fire

According to a report from FOX5, one DC Fire & EMS (DCFEMS) firefighter was hurt and 13 residents were rescued, three by aerial ladder, after fire tore through a southeast Washington, DC, apartment building.

DCFEMS received the call for the incident at around 1:40 a.m. in the 5200 block of D Street.

DCFEMS officials said three residents were rescued. The injured firefighter suffered non-life threatening injuries. Overall, 21 residents were displaced.

In addition to the three residents rescued by aerial ladder, another 10 people escaped by using either portable ladders or through the stairwell.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
