The firefighter, Derek Vallery, 28, suffered minor burns on his neck and shoulder, according to a report from Lancaster Online. He was treated and released. He was treated and released at a local area medical center. The above footage from Dalton Kuhn shows the injured firefighter being removed from the structure.
The fire started after an occupant reportedly discarded cigarettes in a plastic container on a side porch and went inside, and wind caused the fire to spread rapidly. Flames could be seen above the two-and-a-half story duplexes when firefighters arrived, the report said, and power lines fell outside the homes, presenting another hazard to responders.
About 100 area volunteer firefighters brought the fire under control, and both duplexes were deemed destroyed. The residents were able to self-evacuate.
