Two people, including a firefighter, were taken to a hospital Friday following a two-alarm fire that damaged an apartment complex in Santa Rosa.

The firefighter’s injury was minor and he was in stable condition Friday afternoon, according to the Santa Rosa Fire Department.

An unidentified resident was treated for smoke inhalation and his status wasn’t available.

The blaze was reported about 11:20 a.m. at a 24-unit complex on Hoen Avenue just east of Yulupa Avenue, officials said.

Firefighters received multiple 911 calls about the fire and found an upstairs unit filled with flames. Conditions forced officials to upgrade the incident to a second-alarm fire and 49 crew members responded.

Officials had gotten word that an elderly couple was trapped in an adjacent unit but the pair had gotten out by themselves, according to the department.

Firefighters used multiple hoses to attack flames and cut through the ceiling to create ventilation and prevent “super-heated smoke” from spreading, the department reported.

Crews entered units on the first floor and covered property with tarps to prevent smoke and water damage.

The fire was under control within 30 minutes. It damaged two upstairs apartments, while two other units on the first floor had water damage.

Hoen was shut down between Yulupa and Tahoe Drive while firefighters handled the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
