Fire Rips Through Multiple Structures, Including Church, in D.C.

According to a report from NBC4, D.C. Fire & EMS (DCFEMS) responded to a fire that tore through a church and two adjacent buildings just before 7 p.m. on Sunday.

More than 100 DCFEMS firefighters were eventually dispatched to the 5200 block of Georgia Avenue NW as smoke billowed from the top of the buildings.

DCFEMS Public Information Officer Vito Maggiolo said crews’ biggest challenge was preventing fire spread.

One firefighter was injured, though no other injuries were reported. The firefighter’s injuries were not considered life-threatening.

After bringing the fire under control, investigators are now trying to determine its origin.
