FDNY Fire Lieutenant Found Dead in Fire Station

The U.S. Fire Administration issued a report on the death of a firefighter with the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) who was found dead at a city firehouse.

On Sunday, December 26, 2021, while on-duty, Lieutenant Joseph  “Joe” Maiello, 53, was found unresponsive at the fire station. He was pronounced deceased at the scene from an apparent heart attack. Lieutenant Maiello, a 22-year veteran of the department who was assigned to Ladder 83, was working a Christmas night shift before he was found dead inside Engine 163/Ladder 83 headquarters, FDNY officials told SILive.com. He was a married father of two.
